When will I get my blood test results?

Whenever possible we will discuss your results at the time of the actual procedure, however the interpretations of blood test results about your fertility may be dependent upon the date of your next menstrual period.

You must always call the office on either the first, second or third day of your fertility cycle!

What day is considered the first day of my period?

Many patients are not sure what day is considered to be the first day of their period. The first day of your period is the day when you experience a full red flow, not spotting.

How long will this take?

The average patient becomes pregnant after 4 cycles of treatment, pregnancy rates vary depending on patient age, response to treatment and individual medical conditions. There are no guarantees, but be assured Dr. Tippet will offer state of the art medical care. Your treatment plan will be adjusted to meet your specific medical needs. If you have not achieved conception after 3 cycles of care, please schedule a consultation with Dr. Tippet to discuss further therapeutic considerations. If you have not conceived after 6 cycles of treatment, Dr. Tippet may recommend In vitro fertilization.

When should I take my injection?

Pick a time to take your shot each evening, if your decide you want to take your shot at 10:00pm, try to take your injection each night between 9:30 and 10:30. If you are having inseminations, always take your HCG injection so that your second insemination will take place between 36-38 hours later.

What should I do if I get sick?

Please always remember that you must take care of your own personal health, if you develop an infection during the course of treatment and require antibiotics you can take them, the same holds true for over the counter medications... if you take a fever take Tylenol or ibuprofen, if you have a cold, take Robutissin or Sudafed. If you have an upset stomach, take Mylanta or Tums.

Can I drink alcohol?

While alcoholic beverages have been widely recognized as a leading contributor to infant birth defects, an occasional alcoholic beverage during the first half of your cycle will not be harmful to future fetal development and will not interfere with the action of your medication.

Can I exercise?

Please feel free to continue with any form of physical activity or exercise program that you currently engage in.

When should or shouldn't we have intercourse?

Your husband should refrain from intercourse / ejaculation after your second ultrasound unless otherwise instructed. You should have intercourse twice within 36 hours after the first HCG injection. If you are having intrauterine inseminations, your husband should refrain from intercourse / ejaculation after the second ultrasound and your inseminations will be scheduled at a time that will optimize your changes of conception.

Will I have my next ultrasound or when will I have my insemination?

To be honest, we cannot give you any specific treatment plans in advance, Dr. Tippet will review your daily blood tests daily and make his clinical decisions based on those results. He will determine the timing of these procedures to enhance your chance of conception. Be prepared to be available for testing at least 7 times during the first two weeks of each cycle.

Can I have my blood tests done at my local lab or hospital?

In general no, most lab facilities are not prepared to deliver same day test results and all ultrasound exams MUST be done in our office to ensure quality of care.
